   3 Recently I've been writing up an article for one of the
   4 [Elsevier](http://www.elsevier.com/) journals using their
   5 [elsarticle](http://www.elsevier.com/wps/find/authorsview.authors/elsarticle)
   6 LaTeX package.  Unfortunately, their BibTeX style file,
   7 elsarticle-num.bst (version 1.1, 2008-10-13), is a bit broken.  With
   8 the help of Nicolas Markey's excellent [Tame the
   9 BeaST](http://www.ctan.org/tex-archive/info/bibtex/tamethebeast/),
  10 I've [fixed it up](/~wking/tools/elsarticle/elsarticle-num.bst), so it
  11 runs without errors (!), works with
  12 [natbib](http://www.ctan.org/tex-archive/help/Catalogue/entries/natbib.html)'s
  13 `\citet{}`, and conforms with the examples posted in the
  14 [International Journal of Biological Macromolecules' author
  15 guide](http://www.elsevier.com/wps/find/journaldescription.cws_home/525446/authorinstructions#68000).

  17 Update: Oct. 6.  Turns out [the code linked from
  18 Elsevier](http://www.elsevier.com/wps/find/authorsview.authors/elsarticle)
  19 is out of date.  Rishi over at
  20 [River-Valley](http://www.river-valley.com) (writers of the elsarticle
  21 package) pointed me to some [more up to date documentation and
  22 source](http://support.river-valley.com/wiki/index.php?title=Elsarticle.cls).
  23 Version 1.2 fixes most of my problems (with elsarticle-num-names.bst),
  24 but I'm still not sure why it doesn't replace elsarticle-num.bst
  25 entirely...
