Repeat the layers. Sprinkle lightly with the salt and cover with the onion rings. Cover the casserole with aluminum foil and bake at 350F for 45 min., or until squash is nearly tender. Meanwhile, in a mixing bowl combine the breadcrumbs, bacon, cheese, nuts and melted butter. Sprinkle this mixture over the cooked casserole and bake uncovered an additional 15 min. or until squash is tender.
