PLE.COM>\r
> only one was printed (but not which one).\r
\r
I intentionally didn't want to define which one, but I agree that it\r
might be useful in same cases. It would depend on --sort option and on\r
the order of addresses in email headers.\r
\r
> Secondly, what happens with "Doe, John" <john.doe@example.com> and\r
> "John Doe" <JOHN.DOE@EXAMPLE.COM>... ah, it is same as *addr* with\r
> case-insensitive address.\r
>\r
> Sorry, but IMO these options are a bit strange.\r
\r
My impression is that I did bad job describing the deduplication\r
algorithm, which is why you don't understand it. Maybe, we can also\r
change the name of the option to --filter-by, or something like this.\r
\r
When thinking about how to best document such an option, it seems that\r
the user must be aware that this is implemented as flags that are ORed.\r
Which means that the default should be what was in the previous patch\r
--unique=3Dnone.\r
\r
What about the following?\r
\r
 ``--filter-flag=3D``\ (**addr**\ \|\ **name**\ \|\ **addrfold**)\r
\r
 Can be used with ``--output=3Daddresses``, ``--output=3Dsender`` or\r
``--output=3Drecipients`` to filter out duplicate addresses. The\r
filtering algorithm receives a sequence of email addresses and\r
outputs the same sequence without the addresses that are\r
considered a duplicate of a previously output address. What is\r
considered a duplicate depends on the flags given:\r
\r
**addr** means that the address part is compared.\r
Case-sensitivity can be controlled by **addrfold** flag (see\r
below). For example, the addresses "John Doe <john@example.com>"\r
and "Dr. John Doe <john@example.com>" will be considered\r
 duplicate.\r
\r
**name** means that the name part is compared in case-sensitive\r
manner. For example, the addresses "John Doe <john@example.com>"\r
and "John Doe <john@doe.name>" will be considered duplicate.\r
\r
**addrfold** when used with the **addr** flag, the address\r
comparison is performed in case-insensitive manner. For example,\r
the addresses "John Doe <john@example.com>" and "Dr. John Doe\r
 <JOHN@EXAMPLE.COM>" will be considered duplicate.\r
\r
To specify multiple flags, this option can be given multiple\r
 times. For example, ``--filter-flag=3Dname --filter-flag=3Daddr``\r
will print unique case-sensitive combinations of both name and\r
 address parts.\r
\r
With this, the previously default behavior would now has to be spelled\r
as "--filter-flag=3Daddr --filter-flag=3Daddrfold".\r
\r
I'm not sure it is wise present such a low-level interface (flags) to\r
command-line users, but it is hopefully more understandable now. What do\r
you think?\r
\r
> Not to go to choose which one to choose (first, last, most common) instead\r
> of the suggested options these should be the ones:\r
>\r
> 1) "John Doe" <john.doe@example.com> and "John Doe" <JOHN.DOE@EXAMPLE.COM=\r
>:\r
> only one printed, but if either were "Dr. John Doe", both of these are pr=\r
inted\r
> (this as default).\r
\r
According to the above, which could be achieved as --filter-flag=3Dname\r
--filter-flag=3Daddr --filter-flag=3Daddrfold.\r
\r
> 2) same as above, but only make case-insensitive\r
\r
case-insensitive is already in 1), you probably mean case-sensitive.\r
\r
> address match -- i.e. in the 2 above cases in option 1, print only\r
> one.\r
\r
This would be --filter-flag=3Dname --filter-flag=3Daddr.\r
\r
> (and same name but different address to perhaps never been an option...)\r
>\r
> I might like to have option that does case-sensitive address match,=20\r
\r
This would be just --filter-flag=3Daddr.\r
\r
As a side note, it is interesting, that you mentioned your options as an\r
enumeration even though they are actually combinations of several on/off\r
flags. I think that it is more natural for human brains to think in\r
terms of simple lists than in terms of combinations of flags. That's why\r
I originally implemented --output=3Daddresses as just another keyword,\r
rather than requiring the user to specify both sender and receivers.\r
\r
Thanks for the review.\r
