I've pushed that now and updated the instructions in RELEASING. It occurs to me that I'm already updating the version in the NEWS file, so the next step would be to just make "make release" get it from there. But in the meantime, having these nice git-describe-generated version numbers will be quite handy (86 commits since 0.1 already, wow!).
