That wasn't my point. The point is that for some reason we display the encoded text shown above in the Messages Mode buffer, instead of displaying the non-ASCII characters as we (IMHO) should. Maybe this is an issue of different versions of Emacs behaving slightly differently as Carl seems not to have this issue...
