  10   R is GNU S, a system for statistical computation and graphics. It
  11   consists of a language plus a run-time environment with graphics, a
  12   debugger, access to certain system functions, and the ability to run
  13   programs stored in script files.

  15   The core of R is an interpreted computer language which allows
  16   branching and looping as well as modular programming using functions.
  17   The R distribution contains functionality for a large number of
  18   statistical procedures such as: linear and generalized linear
  19   models, nonlinear regression models, time series analysis, classical
  20   parametric and nonparametric tests, clustering, smoothing and
  21   graphical data representations. Additional modules ("add-on
  22   packages") are available for a variety of specific purposes but are
  23   not distributed with this package.
